MY VISION FOR 2011...

Each year, better yet, each month,…no no no, each week, wait,…still not right…got it…every single day I dedicate every waking minute to getting something accomplished towards a goal. It may be a personal goal, team goal, career goal, whatever,…no matter the goal I always make sure that I don’t waste time through the day. I make everything count! This is something that I reinforce to my athletes/students ALL the time. Everything that is done both on the track and off is something that can and will contribute to the improvement and forward progress of my life and more importantly, their life. I always make sure that I know where I’m going! Don’t always know exactly how to get there but I know my starting point which is where I’m going!

I have a vision for myself that I make sure is in the forefront of my thoughts, my words, my actions, my everything,…my entire character speaks to my vision for my life, but if you know anything about me, you know that my vision is a service to others, mainly, my athletes/students. It’s pretty apparent that I own a business and my business consist of training athletes in the area of speed and agility. However, I also use my business as a way to establish a relationship people so that I can share my experiences with them. Basically, I teach my athletes which is why you keep seeing that “athlete/student” phrase! I use our coach-athlete relationship to teach them everything under the sun. Things that may or may not be taught in school such as following your passion, the importance of getting an education which isn’t always to get a “good job” (sometimes it’s just to achieve a goal), the importance of leadership, what a leader really is (a leader is, first, a good student which consist of being a great listener), applying math and science to training (many people don’t even realize the correlation between athletic  training and physics, geometry, anatomy and physiology just to name a few), etc. I’m sure many schools don’t have classes on the entrepreneurial spirit or what it takes to run a business and you don’t need an MBA to do it and so on and so on. These are just things that are PART of my vision for 2011!

But since I’m talking about my vision for this wonderful year of 2011 then I might as well give it to you. I will premise everything by saying that I love my athletes/students…all of them! If any of them catches wind of this blog entry they probably won’t believe it! I’m very hard and tough on them, especially my leaders of the track team and they know this, but I do it because I see them as very successful citizens of this great country. They will tell you that my workouts are tough and very taxing on their bodies, central nervous systems and tough on them mentally, but I design the workouts to mimic athletic competition settings and to mimic making tough choices in stressful environments.

My vision for my athletes/students starts with, of course, the potential that I see in them for track and field. I see the boys team as repeat state champions with many individual state champions in their respective event. I see them standing proudly on top of the podium, proudly lifting that state championship trophy above their heads with a sense of accomplishment and purpose. I feel their joy, their happiness, their unbelief, their doubt that this is real, their awareness of achieving a once unattainable goal, their sense of brotherhood, the realization that, yes, I am my brothers keeper, the sense of WE the TEAM through individual efforts have come together to do the impossible, to form that unstoppable force of UNITY and togetherness….WE did it.

My vision for my girl athletes/students is just as great and vivid even though the team is going through a building period and putting people in the right places, they too are envisioned to be at the great dance called the state championships. I envision many of my female athletes/students earning medals for the first time, star struck at all the people sitting in the stands, 10,000+ eyes on them achieve something that has long been denied them because of unbelief and self doubt, but as for them, not anymore. I envision them, individually, standing proudly on the podium as if they are on top of the world, I envision tears running down their faces because they have now done the impossible, they have given life to THEIR TEAM, they have given hope to a future that doesn’t yet exist, they have set the standard for future classes and athletes for their team to make, through their achievement of just BEING at the state championships they have spoken volumes, they have cancelled out the negative, they have silenced the naysayers, they have given faith a tangible form, something they can now see and touch and through this they expand their vision, increase the level of commitment and expectations of themselves and future teammates,…they have arrived!

This is all just my vision for them for this year, 2011! Like I said, I make everything count and that includes dreaming big and putting in the required work to make that big dream come true…will my athletes/students join me, will they make my vision their own? Well…I’ll keep you updated, so stay tuned……!

Continue in knowledge my friends!
